Sisal crafts created by village artisans from Alappuzha, Kerala, India. Sisal (Agave sisalana) is a species of plant found mainly in the tropics and subtropics with temperature above 25 degree Celsius. Because of its strength, durability, ability to stretch, affinity for certain dye stuffs, and resistance to deterioration in saltwater, Sisal has been the preferred material for agricultural twines and binder twines. Apart from these sisal is used in low-cost and specialty paper, dartboards, buffing cloth, filters, eco textiles, mattresses, carpets, handicrafts and wire rope cores.
